If you’re looking for a stylish, versatile pair of boxing shoes for your training, the Adidas Box Hog 3 Boxing Shoes are perfect for you.

This is the kind of shoe where you buy the exact same pair after you wear out the first pair.

This pair fits so well that it felt like we weren’t wearing any shoes during training. The flexible material of the shoes made them breathable and comfortable, without being flimsy.

We especially loved how stable the ankles of the shoes were. During training, our ankles stayed locked in as if they had hand wraps used on them.

In the ring, we appreciated how lightweight these shoes were, while still allowing us to connect with the floor.

Our only criticism is that the outsole’s rubber on our shoes peeled easily. Of course, your experience may vary, but you should be aware of this.

No matter if you’re a beginner or an experienced boxer, the Adidas Box Hog 3s are perfect for an all-purpose, daily pair of boxing shoes.

Pros and Cons

PROSCONS
✅Versatile for all training
✅Superior ankle support
✅Classic, sleek design
❌Rubber peels easily from sole

Material Quality

We were impressed with the quality of these shoes’ mesh and suede material, abrasion-resistant toe cap, and outsole performance.

Even though the mesh material used on the shoes was breathable and flexible, the suede overlay combination made them feel sturdy on our feet rather than flimsy.

At first we were concerned that the abrasion-resistant toe cap would make us trip when we shuffled or pivoted, but we were glad to see this wasn’t the case.

Our only criticism for these shoes was regarding the sole’s material.

Even though the shoes boast “enhanced durability”, we found that the rubber material on our pair’s outsoles began to peel after a few months of wear.

This didn’t affect our performance as the durable outsole still worked perfectly and the peeling wasn’t bad enough to make us trip.

In all, we were impressed with how well these shoes held up after daily wear-and-tear.

Weight

The Adidas Box Hog 3 Shoes provide an optimal experience for boxers who want to stay light in the ring.

We were surprised to find out how light these were, considering that these shoes have a mid to high-top style.

Weighing at only 11 ounces, these are considerably lighter than some of the tennis and training shoes that we use for regular exercise.

Usually there’s a tradeoff between weight and ankle stability, but these shoes were a rare exception and we got the best of both worlds.

Even today when we use our old pair during training, it still feels as light as it did on our first wear.

Ankle Support and Stability

We were especially impressed with the ankle support and stability of the Adidas Box Hog 3 shoes.

Even though these shoes didn’t have dedicated ankle straps like its cousin, the Adidas Speedex 18s, we never suffered any ankle rolls or sprains while wearing these.

While certain boxing shoes “choke” your feet in order to protect your ankles, we were glad to see that this wasn’t the case with these shoes.

After many hours of training and wear, our pair still hugs our feet and feels as comfortable as the first time we put them on.

Because of this, you can be sure that your ankles will stay safe during your training and fights.

However, be aware that these shoes can feel narrow when you first wear them. Don’t worry: after breaking them in, they’ll mold to the shape of your feet and ankles.

Price

Because the Adidas Box Hog 3 Boxing Shoes are reasonably priced, both beginners and professionals can enjoy their quality.

We’ve used them for all kinds of training and they’re still as reliable as the first day we used them.

We’ll buy these shoes again once our pair runs out of uses, if the outsole ever gives up or if the mesh begins to tear.

Until then, they’ll continue to hold up strong.

Considering that we see this pair of shoes all the time at our gym, at tournaments, and on screen used by the pros, it’s obvious that others think the same too.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I Wear Boxing Shoes Outside?

We don’t recommend wearing your boxing shoes outside of the gym.

The tread of the soles are designed specifically for the ring, and not for rough surfaces like pavement. Using your shoes on outside surfaces will make your soles wear down faster than usual.

Do I Need Boxing Shoes?

If you want to improve and dial in your footwork in the ring, boxing shoes make a big difference. They allow you to stay light on your feet and rooted to the canvas at the same time.

Are High-Top or Low-Top Boxing Shoes Better?

While this is a question of personal preference, keep in mind that you’re making a trade-off between ankle protection and weight.

High-top shoes will provide more ankle protection with more weight, while low-top shoes will offer less ankle protection with less weight.
