This was one of the first pairs of gloves we bought when first learning how to box.
We usually see the Everlast Elite Training Gloves used by all levels of boxers at our gym, so we decided to give them a try.
After testing them, we became fans of their comfortable fit, breathable material, and value.
What we loved most about these gloves was the breathability of the mesh palm that kept our hands stayed cool and comfortable.
When we picked them up the day after a bag session, they were completely dry and ready for use (up to a certain point, which we’ll discuss in a bit).
We also appreciated that there was no break-in period that you sometimes get with gloves made with leather or synthetic leather; these gloves were “plug and play”.
However, we noticed issues with the gloves’ durability and protection.
While the synthetic leather material outside of the gloves held up well, the material inside the glove began to rip by the thumb.
Because of this, the foam padding inside began to soak with our hands’ sweat and couldn’t dry properly.
Also, the Velcro on our gloves wore down over time, sometimes even unstrapping itself mid-punch.
Despite the advertised “EverShield” wrist protection, we found that the wrists on these gloves began to bend and crease after many training sessions.
To compensate for both of these issues, we made sure our hand wraps were totally secure before using these gloves; sometimes we even taped around the wrists of our gloves just to be safe.
All in all, these gloves are perfect for beginners who are learning the basics. If you’re more experienced, you’re better off choosing another pair of gloves.
Pros and Cons
PROS | CONS |
---|---|
✅Mesh breathability ✅Comfortable fit ✅Great value | ❌Velcro loosens over time ❌Wrist bends with wear |
Quality of Material
Because the Everlast Elites are an entry-level pair of gloves, we didn’t have high expectations for their material quality.
However, we were particularly impressed with the responsive foam padding of these gloves.
We were able to feel the impact of our punches while our knuckles stayed well-protected the whole time.
We also loved the breathable mesh material of these gloves; our hands never felt too hot or tight during our training sessions.
Despite its breathable mesh and slick synthetic leather shell, our pair began to rip on the inside, which led to a completely different problem.
Because the rip exposed the foam padding, the inside got soaked with our sweat and never dried properly after training.
Since these gloves is for all kinds of training, its material quality was made with the beginner boxer in mind.
If you’re looking to compete and perform, you should look for a higher-performance pair of gloves.
Durability
Since the Everlast Elites were one of our first pairs of gloves, we used them for everything: heavy bag work, sparring, and padwork.
We put more mileage on our pair than we probably should have.
Knowing this, we had some issues with the gloves’ durability.
While the synthetic leather material outside of the gloves held up, the material inside began to rip, which exposed the foam padding.
This padding became soaked each time we trained with these gloves and never really dried properly, leading to a bad smell.
We also noticed that the Velcro straps didn’t do their job as well as time went on, which we’ll discuss further below.
If you’re only planning to use these gloves once a week for a boxing class, you probably won’t have these issues.
But if you’re like us and live in the gym, you should probably look for a more durable pair of gloves.
Protection
Despite its material quality and durability issues, we loved the padding on these gloves.
The padding on the knuckles allowed us to feel the impact of our punches, while protecting us at the same time.
Our main issues were with the Velcro straps and the bending wrists.
Though we never got any wrist injuries while using these gloves, it was still annoying to have to restrap the Velcro each time it ripped off after throwing a power punch.
If these are big issues for you, we’ve seen some boxers use duct tape to keep the Velcro on and prevent the wrists from bending.
However, if you don’t want to rely on temporary fixes, we recommend that you look for a pair of gloves with more robust wrist protection.
Price
For all its defects, we were still impressed with the value of these gloves for its price.
These are great for beginners who are learning the basics or just trying out a few boxing classes.
However, for more experienced boxers we recommend that you get a higher-quality pair of gloves that will last you for the rest of your boxing career.
Since this was one of our first pairs of boxing gloves, we still keep ours (mostly for nostalgia) and put them on once in a while, but we won’t be replacing our pair anytime soon.

How Should My Boxing Gloves Fit?
Your gloves should fit comfortably around your hand; too much space will increase the risk of hand injuries.
They also shouldn’t be too tight; too little space will cut off your circulation and reduce your ability to move.
A good rule of thumb is that your gloves should feel like a natural extension of your hands.
How Do I Wash My Boxing Gloves?
After use, you should:
- First, wipe down the outside of your gloves with a disinfectant wipe.
- Next, you can throw them in the washer.
- Lastly, let them air dry with the straps left open.
Doing these simple steps will make your boxing gloves last longer.
Do Boxing Gloves Make You Punch Harder?
Boxing gloves don’t make you punch harder. The padding in the knuckles absorb shock to protect you and your sparring partner.
