If you need an affordable pair of boxing gloves constructed with genuine leather and no break-in period, the Byakko Boxing Gloves are for you.
These gloves fill a middle ground; something that beginners can enjoy and that more experienced boxers can appreciate as well.
While not on the same level as a Cleto Reyes handmade glove, these are definitely an upgrade compared to synthetic leather gloves on the market.
In terms of quality, the leather is worth the price alone and feel great from the first use with no-break-in period.
While we’ve only had our pair for a couple of months now, we haven’t had any issues regarding durability.
We were especially glad to see that the inner stitching of these gloves continue to hold up well; it shows that Byakko put just as much care into the interior of these gloves as well as their outer shell.
The foam padding and hook-and-loop wrist straps have been enough to protect our hands through many hours of bag work.
Regarding price, these gloves are great value when considering their material and performance.
To maximize value, you can still use these gloves if you practice muay thai or kickboxing, as well as traditional boxing.
One minor criticism we had is that the color of the padding fades after heavy use. It turned into a chalky white, after starting from a cool, slick black.
This doesn’t affect the gloves’ form or function at all, but it’s something to consider if style and aesthetic is important to you.
Another point we’d like to bring attention to is that the gloves may be too tight for people with bigger hands.
However, because Byakko offers a generous return policy, this shouldn’t be a big problem.
Personally, we felt that our gloves fit just right after putting on hand wraps. Other boxers like to have a little bit of breathing room after putting on their hand wraps.
In all, we recommend these gloves to any boxer looking to outfit themselves with quality leather at a great price point.
Pros and Cons

Quality of Material
The Byakko Boxing Gloves offer a quality experience for all levels of boxers.
The gloves’ genuine leather is worth paying for; they feel slick and smooth from the first use, and they feel great to hit the bag with.
Though we’d say the craftsmanship isn’t on par with Cleto Reyes, they feel more sturdy compared to synthetic leather gloves on the market.
One thing we were glad to see was that the inner stitching of the gloves held up well after heavy use; these gloves were resilient both inside and out.
However, after heavy daily use, we noticed that the color begins to wear off on the padding of the gloves.
The gloves begin to have a chalky, sheen on the padding as opposed to the slick, black shine we had when first using them.
Note that this doesn’t affect the gloves’ form, function, or protection.
If you’re a beginner using these for your first boxing classes, this probably won’t apply to you.
So far, there are no other cosmetic issues or glaring quality issues.
We’ve only had these gloves for a couple of months, so we’ll check in again and give an update on how these gloves held up after a few more.
Durability
The Byakko Boxing Gloves remain durable, even after heavy daily use on the bags.
The knuckle padding stayed even and consistent throughout our training, not forming lumps around the knuckles like we’ve noticed with other gloves.
We were glad to see that the outer and inner stitching held up well after heavy use. This shows that Byakko takes the interior of the glove just as seriously as their exterior.
Regarding the hook-and-loop wrist strap, we have no complaints since it continues to work like new, with no bending at the wrist.
So far, there are no durability issues that we can talk about.
We’ve only had these gloves for a couple of months, so we’ll check in again and give an update on how these shoes held up after a few more.
Protection
The Byakko Boxing Gloves offer ample protection for your wrists and knuckles.
The combination of the leather material and the foam padding on the gloves’ interior kept our hands comfortable and provided enough feedback on our punches.
The hook-and-loop strap kept our wrists secured during power punches and held their form over time.
We appreciated the extra snug fit of these gloves, though some boxers might find a problem with this.
This snug fit made the gloves feel like a part of our hands, which made us feel even more secure when wearing them.
Price
The Byakko Boxing Gloves offer great quality, durability, and protection at a reasonable price point.
These are great for all kinds of training, whether you’re a beginner or a more experienced boxer.
To maximize their value, you can even use these gloves if you’re considering using boxing as a launchpad for muay thai or kickboxing.
In all, we recommend these gloves to any boxer looking to outfit themselves with quality leather at a great price point.
Check PriceFrequently Asked Questions
How Should My Boxing Gloves Fit?
Your gloves should fit comfortably around your hand; too much space will increase the risk of hand injuries.
They also shouldn’t be too tight; too little space will cut off your circulation and reduce your ability to move.
A good rule of thumb is that your gloves should feel like a natural extension of your hands.
How Do I Wash My Boxing Gloves?
After use, you should:
- First, wipe down the outside of your gloves with a disinfectant wipe.
- Next, you can throw them in the washer.
- Lastly, let them air dry with the straps left open.
Doing these simple steps will make your boxing gloves last longer.
Do Boxing Gloves Make You Punch Harder?
Boxing gloves don’t make you punch harder. The padding in the knuckles absorb shock to protect you and your sparring partner.
