If you’re an experienced boxer, you’ll want to add these gloves to your collection to complement your skills.
These are the same gloves that your favorite pros like Floyd Mayweather, Mike Tyson, and Manny Pacquiao use, and for good reason.
Our pair was hand-made with premium leather and they’re beautiful to hold and look at. The leather used on these gloves made other gloves feel like plush toys.
Down to the stitching, we could feel and see the quality.
At first, these gloves were a bit uncomfortable, but after spending a month breaking the leather in, they fit our hands perfectly.
After months of testing, we were glad to see the stitching and leather quality holding up like new, give or take a few small creases.
We were worried at first that the Velcro wouldn’t hold like other gloves we used, but it continues to stay tight and keep our wrists protected even today.
Its hook and loop closure kept our hands stable and comfortable. We especially loved that we could get professional-grade wrist support and protection without having to buy a pair of lace-up gloves.
What stood out for us was how compact and sleek using the gloves felt. When we wore these gloves, we felt inspired to throw our best combinations; we didn’t want to waste the quality on lackluster, repetitive bagwork.
One thing that you should be aware of is the tradeoff these gloves make: these are known as “puncher’s gloves” since the knuckles have less padding and protection.
We’ve taken clean punches to the head with these gloves, and we can definitely say that they make getting hit with other gloves feel like pillows.
These gloves aren’t cheap, but you’ll be enjoying their quality for a lifetime.
Pros and Cons
PROS | CONS |
---|---|
✅Premium quality ✅Great for power punches ✅Secure hook and loop closure | ❌Less padding on the knuckles ❌Expensive |
Quality of Material
We were especially impressed with the quality of these gloves; we expected no less coming from the legendary Cleto Reyes brand.
With these, we actually stopped to admire these gloves’ craftsmanship before putting them on.
The premium leather’s finish looks glossy and slick, even after months of use.
At first we were worried that the hook-and-loop strap would loosen over time like some of the other gloves that use Velcro, but we were glad to see that this wasn’t the case; we have full confidence in our pair’s wrist straps.
We were also glad to see that the gloves were high-quality on the inside as well. The stitching on the inside of some of our low-quality gloves sometimes ripped, while the outer shell stayed intact.
With the durable water-repellent inner lining of our Cleto Reyes gloves, our hands were always comfortable and cool.
With such high-quality, you might be tempted to use these gloves only for sparring.
Durability
The Cleto Reyes Hook and Loop Gloves aren’t all about looks; they were built to last for a long time.
After many hours of bagwork, pad work, and sparring, we have no complaints with their durability and were impressed with how these gloves still feel like new.
Though there are some creases in our pair, the padding and the hook-and-loop closure work well.
When we realized that these gloves would last us a long time, we began to use these gloves exclusively as our daily training gloves.
We have full confidence in these gloves and don’t expect to have any problems with their durability in the future.
Protection
These gloves always made our hands feel secure and protected, no matter how heavy our punches were.
We especially loved the hook-and-loop closure of these gloves.
Unlike other gloves where the Velcro straps tend to rip off easily over time, these gloves kept our wrists secure and snug through all our training.
While there are some small creases in the body of each glove, there are no bends in our pair’s wrists today.
If you want to maximize your wrist protection, you should look into the lace-up version of these gloves.
As for the padding, we knew that these gloves had a reputation for being “puncher’s gloves”.
We felt that the latex foam padding of these gloves gave us great feedback on impact, while providing adequate protection for our hands and knuckles.
Price
While we’re huge fans of the Cleto Reyes Hook and Loop Gloves, we understand that such high quality comes at a premium.
If you’re just joining a boxing gym and taking a few boxing classes, these may be too expensive. You won’t appreciate what these gloves have to offer.
It may not be today, but after you go through a few pairs of lower-quality boxing gloves, you’ll end up considering these gloves anyway.
If you’re serious about boxing, you’ll be glad to have these gloves in your collection for the rest of your career.

How Should My Boxing Gloves Fit?
Your gloves should fit comfortably around your hand; too much space will increase the risk of hand injuries.
They also shouldn’t be too tight; too little space will cut off your circulation and reduce your ability to move.
A good rule of thumb is that your gloves should feel like a natural extension of your hands.
How Do I Wash My Boxing Gloves?
After use, you should:
- First, wipe down the outside of your gloves with a disinfectant wipe.
- Next, you can throw them in the washer.
- Lastly, let them air dry with the straps left open.
Doing these simple steps will make your boxing gloves last longer.
Do Boxing Gloves Make You Punch Harder?
Boxing gloves don’t make you punch harder. The padding in the knuckles absorb shock to protect you and your sparring partner.
