If you’re looking for a reliable, stylish pair of boxing shoes that performs well during sparring, the Hayabusa Pro Boxing Shoes are perfect for you.

While other mesh-body shoes ripped easily after a few months of training, the mesh on these shoes were heavy-duty yet breathable at the same time.

We loved the look of the leather overlay combined with the mesh; they looked sleek and stylish especially when we paired them with our Hayabusa gloves.

At first we we were worried that these shoes’ weight would drag our performance in the ring, but we were glad to see this wasn’t the case.

The extra weight wasn’t noticeable at all; we were always able to stay light on our feet and grounded to the floor at the same time.

We especially appreciated the treaded rubber sole that seemed to perform better on canvas than outside the ring.

Because of this, these were our go-to shoes for sparring.

As for ankle support, these shoes provided us with superior ankle support compared to other mid-top boxing shoes that we’ve tried.

When laced tightly, these shoes felt like an extension of our feet, leaving no room for ankle twists or slips.

One of our biggest criticisms for these shoes was that it might be outside of a beginner’s budget. However, if you’re willing to pay a bit more for the unmatched quality, it’s worth it.

Although this didn’t apply to us, another criticism we had was that Hayabusa didn’t offer half sizes for this pair of shoes.

Pros and Cons

PROSCONS
✅Sturdy and lightweight
✅Solid ankle support
✅Responsive rubber outsole
❌Expensive for beginners
❌No half sizes

Material Quality

We were thoroughly impressed with the quality of these shoes’ mesh/leather body combination with the light and responsive rubber outsole.

Hayabusa is the new player on the block, but with these shoes, they rival the quality of the older, more trusted brands in boxing equipment.

As for the shoes’ body, we loved the sleek combination of the mesh body with the leather overlays.

Other shoes tend to be only mesh or only leather material, so it was refreshing to see this design.

That’s not to say that these shoes are only about looks; the mesh body was extremely breathable and never ripped throughout all our training.

We also appreciated how these shoes’ sole performed. The inside felt comfortable and ergonomic for our feet, while the outside always performed well and allowed us to pivot on a dime.

We even felt like these shoes performed better on the canvas inside the ring than outside of it, so we preferred to use them for sparring and padwork sessions.

Regarding the fit, we found that these shoes were comfortable from the first time we wore them.

As time went on, we realized that these shoes continued to mold and respond to our feet the more that we wore them.

Weight

Though the Hayabusa Pro Boxing Shoes are heavier than other mid-top shoes, they still provide an optimal experience for boxers who want to stay light in the ring.

We found that these shoes offer the right balance between ankle support and weight performance.

They weren’t so light that we had trouble sitting on our punches and they weren’t so heavy that we couldn’t move around the ring easily.

These shoes offer an ideal middle ground for all kinds of boxers.

Ankle Support and Stability

The Hayabusa Pro Boxing Shoes always kept our ankles protected and secure, no matter how much lateral movement we did.

When it comes to boxing equipment, we’re lazy. We don’t like lacing up gloves or setting up dedicated ankle straps.

So we were glad to find that the mid-top design of these shoes combined with the laces did enough to protect our feet.

We found that there was little to no break in period for these shoes; they were very much “plug-and-play”.

That said, we were also surprised to see that these shoes continued to mold to our feet, as if responding to which kinds of lateral movements we preferred.

With these shoes, your ankles will be protected through many training sessions without fail.

Price

You’ll have to pay a premium for the quality and protection that the Hayabusa Pro Boxing Shoes offer.

If you’re a beginner and only have a limited budget to buy all of your equipment, you might be better off considering another pair of shoes.

However, if you’re a more experienced boxer and are tired of lower-quality shoes, you’ll appreciate all that these shoes have to offer.

These shoes provide us with an extreme amount of value; we use them almost every day for all kinds of training.

If our pair of Hayabusa Pro shoes ever begin to wear down (we doubt it), we’ll be glad to buy a fresh pair.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I Wear Boxing Shoes Outside?

We don’t recommend wearing your boxing shoes outside of the gym.

The tread of the soles are designed specifically for the ring, and not for rough surfaces like pavement. Using your shoes on outside surfaces will make your soles wear down faster than usual.

Do I Need Boxing Shoes?

If you want to improve and dial in your footwork in the ring, boxing shoes make a big difference. They allow you to stay light on your feet and rooted to the canvas at the same time.

Are High-Top or Low-Top Boxing Shoes Better?

While this is a question of personal preference, keep in mind that you’re making a trade-off between ankle protection and weight.

High-top shoes will provide more ankle protection with more weight, while low-top shoes will offer less ankle protection with less weight.
